Gentle Somatic Yoga

For Gentle and Effective Pain and Stress Relief…
with Deanna Nagle

Do you have unresolved pain and tension in your body? Due to lifestyle, stress, trauma, sitting in chairs, we all have patterns in our bodies that can create imbalance in the form of muscles that are chronically tight and/or weak. Through gentle, repetitive movement, the practice of somatic yoga will help you unlock and release chronic pain and stress in the body. By working on our sensory motor system, our musculo-skeletal structure and overall health can improve without the use of medications and expensive treatments. Based on the work of Thomas Hanna, the term “somatic” means to experience something in your body.

This practice is gentle and effective, no experience is necessary! Everyone can benefit from this practice, regardless of age and ability. Please join Deanna for this transformative and deeply relaxing practice.

About the Instructor:

Deanna has been practicing yoga for more than twenty years, and teaching for over ten. She earned both her 200 hour and 500 hour level certifications at the Yoga Loft of Bethlehem where she also served as the director of teacher training for several years. She has additional training in restorative, yin, somatic, partner and children’s yoga. A former librarian, she is passionate about literature, philosophy, music and poetry and often incorporates these into her classes.  Her passion is helping her students be their best selves through the healing practices of yoga.

Several years ago, she discovered the therapeutic modality of somatic yoga – a practice which helps practitioners recover from tension stored in the body in the form of trauma, stress and injury.  Somatic yoga is a gentle form of yoga which asks students to go inward, focusing on sensation with awareness and mindfulness.  This style of yoga helps release sensory motor amnesia – when our muscles are either locked into contraction or non-engagement.  The overall effect is one of deep relaxation and calm, as well as renewed energy and purpose.
